Get 25% off for migrating from Drupal 6 to Drupal 7

Is your website still using Drupal 6 ?

On February 24th 2016, Drupal 6 has reached end of life (EOL). What does this mean ? Well, the short answer is Drupal 6 is dead. Here's a sample of what you can read on drupal.org:

  1. Drupal 6 will no longer be supported by the Drupal community at large.
  2. The Drupal community will no longer be creating new Drupal 6.x projects (i.e. modules), or fixing bugs in existing Drupal 6.x projects, writing documentation, etc.
  3. There will be no more core commits on Drupal 6.x.
  4. The security team will no longer provide support or Security Advisories for Drupal 6.
  5. All Drupal 6 releases on project pages will be flagged as not supported.
  6. At some point in the future update status may stop working for Drupal 6 websites.

Oh! Are you processing payments on your website?

If you are processing payments with a Drupal 6 version of Ubercart, then you may be facing another issue: that you cannot guaranty that your customers' credit card information is secure and cannot be stolen. In other words, your website is perhaps at risk with a second business critical issue that needs to be fixed ASAP.

Get started!

So where to from here you ask? First, don't take my word it. You need to inform yourself about both of these issues so you can take the most appropriate action for your business use case. Here are two references to get you started.

Limited time offer

If all this is BAD NEWS for you and/or you don't have an experienced Drupal developer looking after your website, then perhaps you'll be interested by the following offer for migrating from Drupal 6 to Drupal 7. Offer ends November 30th 2016 or until we are fully booked for the rest of 2016.

Offer Summary

What's included

  • Up to 6 content types and/or Ubercart product types/classes.
  • Up to 8 views and/or views blocks.
  • Up to 4 custom blocks.
  • RSS feeds, CKEditor, Google Analytics and sharing buttons (AddThis).

The modules of your Drupal 6 website that have been ported to Drupal 7 and/or for which a simple migration path exists will be installed and configured.

  • Custom or hacked modules are excluded from this offer.

Supported data types or entities : nodes, comments, users, taxonomy terms, files.

  • Other entities e.g. Profile or module meta data e.g. Simplenews Statistics are excluded. That being said, if a proper migration path exists, which is the case for Ubercart, then these other entities (products, orders, etc.) should migrate without issues.

Drupal themes cannot be migrated.

  • Your Drupal 6 theme will have to be replaced or rebuilt from scratch.
  • A vanilla Bootstrap theme will be installed free of charge.

Multilingual websites are a special use case and may require additional work not covered by this offer.

Migration Methods

There are two migration methods:

MAJOR VERSION UPGRADE (MVU) as described in the UPGRADE.txt file which can be found in your Drupal root folder. Content creation needs to be halted (disabled) during the migration process. It will be re-enabled once your website runs on Drupal 7. Therefore, the data migrating process needs to occur in one go i.e. in the shortest time frame possible. It's a bit like renovating your house while you continue living in it. There comes a time when water and/or electricity will need to be cut off. Downtime is usually measured in days, so timing is critical. Note - for certain migration projects such as Ubercart 6.x to 7.x, this is the only available method.

MIGRATE: this method requires creating a separate Drupal 7 website and using the Migrate and Migrate d2d suite of modules to setup migration mappings between the Drupal 6 and new Drupal 7 website. Although this method is more work, it has one important advantage: content creation can remain enabled on the Drupal 6 website during the migration process. It's a bit like moving from your old house to an already fully functional one; downtime is usually measured in hours.

Our philosophy behind this offer

This offer aims to help you move most of your content assets (but maybe not all of them) from Drupal 6 into a functional and scalable Drupal 7 platform in the shortest possible time frame and at an affordable price.

Please consider this: a full data migration for a medium size website (3,500 nodes) can cost as much a $5,000. The integration of a purchased theme as much as $3,000. Add another $2,000 for a custom theme. With all the bells and whistles, you can quickly reach between $12,000 and $15,000. That's more than 4 times our most expensive package. So, in short, make sure your expectations match your budget - don't expect a $15,000 dollar website for $3,499.00.

That being said, we strongly believe that our offer will deliver more than the minimum viable product you need to keep your business going, stay relevant and be successful at what you do for the next 3 to 5 years.
