Thanks for part II and yes I was able to follow along and build my own profile.
I had a silly error for a while and that was simply that I had not ended the projects[uberdrupal][download][url] .tar.gz file reference with a double-quote. But once that was resolved, the install sailed through.
I note that a lot of the work is going on in the uberdrupal.profile file, which includes functions to create blocks, menu items and nodes etc. If you are building your own profile, do you know if it is possible to create these functions by reverse engineering them out of an existing site, rather than have to manually type these functions out? I am thinking of the case where you have an existing site that you want to turn into a profile.
